29.1.2013: KUALA LUMPUR: More than one million youths are expected to participate in the 'My Beautiful Malaysia Day' that will be held at 100 locations nationwide on Feb 3, Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa said.
He said the programme was aimed at inculcating volunteerism among youths in the country in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's announcement that 2013 would be declared Year of the Volunteers.
Najib, accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor is expected to attend the programme at Taman Medan Cahaya here.
"We hope the time spend by the Prime Minister with youths would create awareness to realise the importance of volunteerism. I hope the programme will get all the support it needed from the youths who are the assets of the country," he said after visiting the site for the 'My Beautiful Malaysia Day' programme, here, today.
Ali said the RM100 million fund announced by Najib to support youth volunteers, would not be used to give out allowances to youths, but rather channeled as grants to organisations and associations.
He added that the money would be channeled through non governmental organisations and youth organisations to carry out volunteer programmes.
